About Us

Who we are
We are Autonomy Health Initiative, a youth- and women-led non-governmental organization based in Wakiso District, Uganda, with operations countrywide. We exist to create a safe and inclusive space where young people and women are supported to lead healthy, empowered, and dignified lives. Driven by a passion for equity and transformation, we work hand in hand with communities to address the root causes of inequality. Our focus is on practical, rights-based solutions across health, gender justice, livelihoods, and resilience — all designed to spark lasting change from the ground up.
Our Vision

To transform lives and advance well-being among young people, women, and girls through integrated, people-centered programs in health, gender justice, sustainable livelihoods, nutrition, and WASH, grounded in empowerment, rights, and advocacy.

Our Mission

Empowered communities where health, equity, and opportunities are accessible to all driven by informed choices and collective action.

                 Our Core Values

  • Equity – Fairness, inclusion, and justice are at the core of our work.
  • Empowerment – We believe in unleashing the potential within individuals to lead their own change.
  • People-Centered – Real impact starts with listening to the lived experiences of those we serve.
  • Integrity – We lead with transparency, accountability, and trust.
  • Collaboration – Stronger together, we build with communities, not for them.
  • Respect – We uphold the rights, diversity, and voices of all people.

Our Approach

At Autonomy Health Initiative, we take a holistic, community-centered approach that integrates health, education, livelihood development, and rights-based programming. Our work is grounded in research, lived experiences, and strong partnerships with grassroots organizations, youth leaders, and service providers.

Through our five core program areas, we deliver targeted, inclusive interventions that respond to local realities:

  • Skills Development & Sustainable Livelihoods
  • Sexual & Reproductive Health and Gender Justice
  • Household Nutrition & Food Security
  • Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH)
  • Community Health & Empowerment

Why Autonomy Matters

Autonomy is more than freedom — it’s power with purpose. It’s the ability to choose, to lead, and to thrive. At Autonomy Health Initiative, we believe true empowerment begins when individuals especially young people and women can make informed decisions about their health, livelihoods, and futures.

Whether it’s accessing reproductive care, starting a business, or raising a healthy family, autonomy fuels confidence, resilience, and opportunity. That’s why every one of our programs is designed not just to serve, but to shift power — putting choice and control back in the hands of those we serve.
